If Election Night broke your heart, this letter is for you:

My Tuesday night and Wednesday were dark; I felt a lot of things, but mostly I think I was just deeply, profoundly sad. Yesterday, thanks to my husband and time spent in nature, I was able to make room for joy and connection and even a little peace. I was able to remind myself that despite the echoes of cruelty and ugliness and apathy and ignorance and pain that so many of us feel right now, there is always room for beauty and growth and kindness. And today… today, I’m ready for hope and I’m ready for action. And I’d like to share with you what sparked that shift and perhaps toss a “rope of hope” to you, too, in case you need something to hold onto.
It started with a text from my sister, who has been playing with an idea for something that is not only meaningful to her but that would do genuine good for others, too. I had mentioned to her last week that the passion project workshop I was planning could be a good fit. And then on Wednesday, we had this exchange:
Her: When is the start for the passion project?
Me: January 14
Her: I’d love to give it a go
❤️
That moment, when I knew that something I had created would be helpful and meaningful to her, was when hope started to flicker again. That moment, when I remembered that I had committed myself to helping good people with good ideas, was when I felt myself start to move. And perhaps I was just grasping for something to feel good about, but I started to think that what I’ve created and what I offer could be even more important, more valuable, and more helpful now. Because the Guidebook and workshop and coaching and advising – all of it – is really just about providing a sense of clarity and control, an infusion of confidence and support, and a way to tap into some of the most beautiful and incredible pieces of our humanity. And how many of us need that even more today?
I wish – so, so very much – that I could offer my services for free. I honestly do. The realities of life and bank accounts, however, simply won’t allow it. But I am either too optimistic or just too damn stubborn to let that be the end of it. So here’s what I’ve come up with instead:
If you have an idea for something that would bring some good into this world – no matter how small or how impossible it might seem – and that would give YOU, good human, a feeling of hope and movement toward a version of the world that feels good and beautiful and growing and kind, then the Guidebook is yours for whatever price you want. Whatever you feel you can afford, that’s how much it costs.
The world needs your idea. But, just as importantly, you deserve to pursue it, too. You deserve to breathe life into beauty and growth and kindness. You deserve to take action on the things that matter to you. You deserve to feel hope.
All my best,
Jessica
