Class & Workshop Topics:

  • Wildlife Photography (also online)
  • Seeing & Understanding Light
  • Composition & Visual Impact
  • Story & Narrative
  • Nature Photography with Your Phone
  • Demystifying Manual Exposure

Critique Sessions:

I'm available for critique sessions for any and all types of photography. When I critique, I aim to help others grow, not to tear them down. And I never critique through the narrow lens of my own work. My goal is to share feedback and ideas that can help someone grow within their own work and artistry.

If you're interested in a class, workshop, or critique session, please feel free to reach out. I'd love to learn more about your group and what you're looking for.

Jessica is an excellent teacher. I've taken lots of workshops; this is among the best.

I must say that Jessica's level of knowledge is fantastic. And beyond that, her love of teaching and capability to do the same are what made the class even that much more exciting.

Jessica is an amazing teacher. She has a really unique ability to distill concepts down into manageable and understandable / graspable / attainable bits.

Jessica saw something positive in every photo that was being critiqued. This way we got feedback about how we could have made our photo even better and praise for all the things that made our photograph interesting or beautiful.

Jessica is such a good teacher. She listens well, she explains things well, she's empathetic and energetic. She'll get you to look at things in a new way and inspire you to keep going. Everyone needs Jessica in their life!

Jessica opened my eyes to the 'big' picture of the photo. I now pay close attention to the story, detail, and how best to crop for maximum impact. It takes me forever, but she demonstrated, explained, gave specific instructions, and then let it resonate. I will never have her eye or talent for seeing the beauty buried in a simple photo, but I can now try! What a gift she gives with her creative edge.

Jennie T

She gave honest, intelligent advice that makes me think. I never felt like I failed with a photograph, just didn't finish or give it enough thoughtful attention. I sort of assumed a good photo just pops out! She demonstrated a mental workflow that produces a wonderful result. I'm forever changed and will never just glance at a photo ever again!

Jennie T

I would always take a class from Jessica Rix without a shadow of a doubt.

Jessica was the 2023 Juror for our highly acclaimed annual photography competition and state-wide traveling exhibition called alaskaWILD. In alaskaWILD's 38-year history, contest jurors have included award-winning photographers like Ron Clifford, Jon Cornforth, Michael DeYoung, and notably Jeff Schultz - retired Official Iditarod Photographer for many years & owner of Alaska Stock Images.

Jessica was the perfect complement to alaskaWILD. Her strengths are centered around her deep love of photography, ethics and care for animals/nature, her keen eye, and natural talent of delivering very spot-on, honest critiques in the kindest manner. She leaves the recipient fully inspired and equipped with a better understanding of how to improve their skills and create images with stronger visual impact.

Not only was she an absolute pleasure to work with during the alaskaWILD 2023 contest, but we were also thrilled by her juror's lecture and supplementary 3-day workshop in Anchorage, presented by the Alaska Society of Outdoor & Nature Photographers (ASONP) club.

If you have the golden opportunity to work with her, you will not be disappointed. I am fully confident that Jessica will continue to be a tremendous asset and successful name to know in photography circles.
